This home sits on a small sliver of buildable area on a large hillside lot. There are views of the entire South Bay, and views down into the adjacent canyon. It was important to the clients to maintain outdoor areas connected with the land rather than having outdoor areas “look over” the landscape. They were also interested in building the house with materials that did not require finishing or painting, so that the house would naturally weather over time. Board form concrete, self-weathering steel, and long-wearing ipe were chosen as the principal materials for the house.
The floor plan is open, with double height spaces in the Living Room and Dining room. All rooms take advantage of the expansive views and natural light.
