Jeff Shelton, Architect
Located in the wooded foothills of Montecito, this large site is an ideal setting for a grand house and garden. The program for this new Spanish-style house includes a ballroom and generously sized patio for entertaining, and comfortable, smaller scale spaces for everyday living. These functions are separated by an elaborately tiled entry foyer, which terminates in a rotunda with coffered wood ceilings painted by artist Katie Upton. To one side is the grand ballroom, with an oversized fireplace, coffered painted ceiling, and tall French doors leading to the back patio. On the other side of the rotunda is an open plan kitchen / living room, with detailed plaster ceilings, exposed wood beams, and marble tile. The second story has a master suite and a tower office with magnificent views of the surrounding hills and gardens. Much of the landscape is established with oak trees and a large lawn, but it will be supplemented with new native California plants and exotic aloes—important elements which are Jeff Shelton’s signature in completion of a new project.
